Mark Adams

Mark Adams, whose presentation on January 14th, entitled “butterfly Journeys, Near and Far,” is a professional astronomer at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory headquarters in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he leads the Science Communications Office.  He has a Ph.D. in astronomy. Living in the wilds of west Texas sparked Mark’s interest in birds and butterflies.  He has studied Virginia’s butterflies annually since his arrival in Virginia in 2004.  Over the past year he has spent seven weeks photographing butterflies in the Neotropical forests of the Peruvian Andes and the Afrotropical forest of southern Ghana.  His presentation on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Smith Mountain Lake State Park will feature many of his butterfly photographs from Peru, Ghana and Virginia.
