Music in the Park 2017

 
Bring the family and join us for a toe tapping evening of fun!

 
 
The Old Dominion Cloggers from Martinsville, Virginia will perform at each event.
The group performs freestyle clogging, a traditional American percussive step dance to choreographed routines.

MAY 27, 2017  The Friday Night Band
The Friday Night Band is an old-time band from Callaway, Virginia. Over the years, the band has played at many different venues including jam sessions at Cannaday’s Store in Boones Mill and the Floyd Country Store in Floyd. The band also received a commendation from the Virginia General Assembly for their contributions to the community of Redwood and town of Rocky Mount, where they played for benefit dances. Current band members include Dolly Maxey on guitar and vocals, Stan Rowe on bass, guitar, mandolin and vocals. Adam Cecil plays fiddle and vocals, and is a song writer. He joined the band in 2013 and has been featured in numerous publications. David Cannaday plays banjo and is the music coordinator at the Floyd Country Store.


JUNE 24, 2017   The Wildfire Band
After retiring from the road in the late 1980’s, Steve Shively and his revised Wildfire band started performing in January 2013.  Members include Shively on vocals, guitar and banjo; Sandy Via, vocals and bass; Freddie Rakes, steel guitar, banjo, guitar and vocals; Eli Williams, lead guitar and vocals; Jerry Wood, fiddle and vocals; and Jerry Prillaman, drums and vocals.  During the summer, 2014, they opened for Ty Herndon at the Harvester Performance Center in Rocky Mount. 
Shively started the original Wildfire band in 1975 and opened for many country music stars, like Ricky Skaggs, Vernon Gosdin, Pam Tillis, Steve Warner, “Box Car” Willie and Billy “Crash” Craddock.  They continued to perform until the late 1980’s when the decision was made to retire from the road and follow different directions. Members include, Sandy Via (left), Jerry Wood, Freddie Rakes and Shively.  The back row consists of Jerry Prillaman and Gill Lancaster.
